Sunday musings

So sitting out this evening talking with the neighbors and they were going on about jobs,  work,  and how hard it is to find both.  So I mentioned a few possible ideas such as local fast food places,  gas stations,  and a certain customer service company.

Both of them looked at me and said there was no money in that. Now I agree.  But they live together,  rent is not too bad at all.  Neither of them have kids so the combined income would work out.  So I tempted fate and mentioned this.  He walked in and grabbed a beer and a cigarette and began his explanation of how if not for the food pantry in the area he would not eat.  If not for working for the landlord he and she would not have the apartment.  Of course I just nodded my agreement as not to worry about coming home to missing mail and or scattered nails in my parking spot but all I could think was Wow.

So the question is are there no jobs? Or is it just that there are no jobs you want to do? I mean I understand the concept of menial labor and not wanting to work in a certain field but work my friends is work.

I've seen college graduates tending bar or setting tables. Driving cabs or working as a dishwasher.  It may not be ideal but it's something.  Age plays a factor as well yes. So does ability of course but if it means keeping a roof,  food,  clothing on your back then so be it.

I don't know them well so cannot say I know about their backgrounds,  criminal or personal (though I've checked a few registries)  and so I may be out of place.

But dear readers I guess my thoughts on this are simple.  Do what you can.  Use that time to work up or wait for something better.  If your not happy fine but someday you will be.  You may have to do something you don't like but in time that opportunity may come up. All it takes is that desire.  Understand also that if you want to have something it's up to you to get it.  You can find happiness in any job one sliver of something whether it be saying hello and good morning at a drive through or knowing that when people see that freshly washed car in awe you were the one that made it that way.  The person on the receiving end may not always notice these things but you know that person may be on the other side of an interview table.

My thought at least.
